The Naturalist Bookworm -Day 15 of 30 Days Wild

Day 15 of 30 Days Wild is looking at literature on nature. With the miserable rain outside making exploring the outdoors a bit soggy I thought today I’d look at my new book.

Last weekend I bought Chris Packham’s new book ‘Fingers in the Sparkle Jar: A Memoir’ after hearing Chris reading excerpts from the book on BBC Radio 4.

Chris Packham is one of my favourite naturalists who I really enjoy watching on Springwatch and Autumnwatch. I remember watching him, Michaela and Terry Nutkins on The Really Wild Show when I was about 10 years old.

I haven’t got very far into the book yet but what I’ve heard and read so far has been interesting. The book delves back into his childhood where you start to understand where his lifelong interest in nature begins.

I don’t want to give anything away but if like me you are a fan of Chris Packham then I’d definitely give this book a read….and I’m only 30 pages in!

Have you got any nature books you have enjoyed reading?

I haven’t read many nature books but one of my favourite authors is Gerald Durrell. His adventures are hilarious and you do learn a thing or two about wildlife. His activities as a collector seem a little outmoded now, but it’s nice to know that from those experiences he went on to found one of the top conservation centres in the world. My favourite of his books will always be My Family and Other Animals 🙂
